The Wooden Spool has not always been what customers have referred to us as. Dust Quilt Shop was the original name of the shop. It was owned by Mrs. Dust whom lived out in the country south of Effingham. She started machine quilting out of her house, before developing into a full-blown quilt shop. Then in 1998, my aunt purchased Dust Quilt Shop, renaming it to Angie’s Nine Patch and moved the shop into Effingham. In 2013 when I was just twenty-four years old, I purchased the quilt shop from my aunt, renaming it to what it is today, The Wooden Spool.
Mrs. Dust still does machine quilting out of her home, and Angie still has a part in my quilt shop making a lot of my Shop Samples.
Here, at The Wooden Spool, we offer our customers a brick and mortar store that has easy access from two major interstates 57 and 70, not to mention the concrete parking lot and easy access for buses! Additionally, we pride ourselves in offering a large selection of quality fabrics, as well as quilting supplies and notions.
Over the years I have seen the sewing trend change. So whether you’re an experienced sewing enthusiast or just learning to sew we accommodate all skill levels. All visitors are welcomed with a warm hello from a knowledgeable staff member who is always eager to help!
